Tough, Long Lasting on the Roof; Easy on the Budget
Fiberglass shingles have become quite popular and are being used more frequently on Denver reroofing projects. Excel Roofing often uses fiberglass roofing shingles because they are more fire resistant, tear resistant, last longer and are the most budget-friendly. They are also thinner, lighter and easier to install.
Because you should Expect the Very Best, Excel Roofing has partnered with Owens Corning – one of the most reputable home products manufacturers in the business. Owens Corning shingles offer high performance, attractive appearance and impressive durability.
Because of their premier rating, when Excel Roofing installs a roof with Owens Corning impact-resistant shingles, your shingles are not only beautiful, they’re durable. They’ve been specially engineered to meet the highest standards for hail impact-resistance.

The Best Materials Make the Best Shingles
Fiberglass shingles use fiberglass reinforcing material backing, while asphalt shingles with standard paper or other “organic” material use a cellulose-fiber mat derived from wood. Fiberglass shingles have a base layer of glass fiber reinforcing mat. The mat is made from wet, random-laid fiberglass bonded with urea-formaldehyde resin. The mat is then coated with asphalt which contains mineral fillers and makes the fiberglass shingle waterproof.
The use of glass fiber gives fiberglass asphalt shingles the highest fire rating available, protecting your roof from the spread of a flame, to go along with other advantages such as heat and humidity resistance. Fiberglass shingles typically obtain a class “A” fire rating – the top rating – as the fiberglass mat resists fire better than organic asphalt shingles. Fiberglass reinforcement was devised as the replacement for asbestos paper reinforcement of roofing shingles.
A newer design of fiberglass asphalt shingle, called laminated or architectural, uses two distinct layers bonded together with asphalt sealant. Laminate shingles are heavier, more expensive and more durable than traditional 3-tab shingle designs. Laminated shingles also give a more varied, contoured visual effect to a roof surface.
